Description
A one-gallon stoneware jug with a strong cobalt decoration and stamped, "W. Miller. / Dealer In / Wines & Liquors. / Napanee. C.W". Capacity mark "1" in cobalt script. In the mid-1850s William Miller established his dry goods, groceries and liquors mercantile on Dundas Street in Napanee, eventually closing shop in 1871. Miller also served as a village councillor during the mid-1860s. Picton Pottery, possibly made during Lazier's tenure. 1860s. Stamped, "W. Miller. / Dealer In / Wines & Liquors. / Napanee. C.W". Capacity mark "1" in cobalt script.
Condition
Excellent condition. Thin 1/2" in-manufacture chip base edge at the front. Two in-manufacture flaws (3/4" left side base edge, 1/2" at the back below the handle).
