A decorated pine blanket chest found in Walton, Ontario, with original surface showing tobacco leaf motifs on the front and sides in brown and cream paint over a coral base. The case is dovetailed and has two inset drawers below a horizontal molding, all supported by a shaped bracket base. Original locks and cast iron hinges. Illustrated in "Canadian Country Furniture" by Michael Bird, page 211. In very good condition with a minor loss on the right front foot and the knobs have been replaced. 2nd quarter 19th century.
