Description
A rare bed rug having a prominent blue bird at the centre within a circle of oak leaves surrounded by a continuous line of red and green Scottish thistles, all hooked in relief on a black homespun backing. The rug was found being used as a horse blanket in Elma Township (Perth County) populated by both Mennonite and Amish as well as Scottish Presbyterian settlers. Fabulous colours, composition and very good condition with some edge loss. Ontario, 19th century.
Condition
Some minor wear to top and edges, as expected with age and use.
