Description
A scarce one-gallon merchant stoneware jug made for W. Miller, Napanee, with a well-executed Tree-of-Life decoration made at the Skinner/Picton pottery. In the mid-1850s William Miller established his dry goods, groceries and liquors mercantile on Dundas Street in Napanee, eventually closing shop in 1871. Miller also served as a village councillor during the mid-1860s. Circa 1860. Stamped, "W. Miller / General Dealer / In Dry Goods Groceries / & Liquors . Napanee / 1" (Liquors is misspelled).
Condition
Excellent condition. A small amount of dried contents along the top edge of the spout. Very minor 1/2" in-manufacture chip along the base edge, left side.
