Description
Eagle Head, Nova Scotia. 1981. Mr. Tanner's carving style is unique, unmistakable and, arguably, in a class of its own. His work is boldly carved and extremely colourful. This particular work portrays an interaction among Tanner's renown bulbous figures: a woman holding a child in one arm while also holding the hand of her daughter. The family dog, a dalmation, and a playful black and white cat complete the scene. There are many single figure Tanners, but few multiple-figure Tanners. This is an exquisite example of folk art sculpture by one of Canada's finest folk artists. Signed on the underside of the base, "CT".
