ARTIST
Bill Male (1918-2003) was a folk art painter based in Québec. Male painted the world around him in bright primary colours. His paintings often included a number of people, often dancing or at play in settings such as dance halls, restaurants, apple orchards or farm fields. There was often music and often a solitary watcher. His work was primitive, powerful and skillful. He usually worked on masonite and artist board and signed his work in one of the lower corners.

Description
Montreal, Quebec. C. 1985. Bill Male (1918 - 2003) began his career as a folk artist by simply picking up a paintbrush and starting to paint. Lack of any formal training in art did not deter him from producing a wide range of work. His paintings, like this one depicts two women and a man busy with a team of horses that has just been released from the winter sleigh. Mr. Male has the work horses front and centre in the painting. They are particularly well painted. Signed, "Bill Male", lower right.
