Description
Mid 1970s. In this colourful painting Everett Lewis (1893 - 1979) achieves considerable success recreating one of his wife's most well known serial images: Oxen in Springtime. The centre of the painting is dominated by two large oxen who have paused in their work. Their handler, a young girl stands to their side. Trees and flowers surround the oxen. An orange house floats in the background above the trees. A well executed work by the husband of Canada's most famous folk artist. Signed, "Everett Lewis" lower right. Includes signed letter of authenticity by Alan Deacon.
Condition
Excellent condition. The upper right and lower two corners show flaking or loss. Lower left edge shows to touch-up to paint flake, likely done by artist during composition. Spectacular colour. Excellent overall. Professionally framed at Zwickers Gallery.
Medium
Oil on masonite.
Provenance
Purchased directly from the artist. Retained by the same family since purchased.
