Description
Lunenburg, Nova Scotia. C. 1970. Naively painted wood carving of a swan with outstretched wings that clearly illustrates Collins Eisenhauer's (1898-1979) skill and talent. He has an uncanny ability to capture the essential likeness of whatever animal or bird he is carving at an exact moment in time. In this case, the swan seems ready to burst into flight. Another fine example of a masterful folk artist. Unmarked.
Condition
Good overall condition. Original paint, including base. A stable age crack where neck attaches to body and through the body diagonally from front to below the tail. Some loss to plaster at outside base of left wing as well as where the neck joins the body. The neck is slightly loose. Sides of both feet have been snapped off at the edge of the base.
Medium
Painted wood caring.
Provenance
From the collection of the late Peter Josten, of New York, New York and Princeton, New Jersey.
