Description
Lunenburg, Nova Scotia. Early 1970s. Collins Eisenhauer (1898 - 1979) came to prominence in the 1970's. He is known for his imaginative, sometimes life sized, painted wooden sculptures of humans and animals which filled his yards and front porch. This piece, a carved and painted wooden head of a young woman is attributed to Eisenhauer. Although it shows the wear of many seasons spent outdoors, his ability as a carver and painter of wood is clearly evident in the hair and the face. A fascinating piece of Canadian folk art. Unmarked.
