Description
Marshalltown, Nova Scotia. Middle to late 1950s. This unusual Maud Lewis work depicts an image of two birds, possibly doves, painted yellow, black, and white in a colourful orchard in winter. The colour palette and subject is atypical for Maud and resembles another of her works featured on the cover of the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia's exhibition catalogue by Ray Cronin. It is a rare serial image. Maud loved birds and while it is rare to see them as a subject in her works, she decorated the walls of her tiny home in Marshalltown with them. Signed, "Lewis", lower right.
