American. Ca: 1900. Iron, steel. A small size sewing machine manufactured by the Willcox & Gibbs Sewing Machine Company in New York. This single chain-stitch sewing machine is the most common of the Wilcox & Gibbs sewing machines, the Model 64. At the time of manufacture of this specimen, in the early 1900’s, most of the Willcox and Gibbs patented improvements had been incorporated into the design. Serial #501585. Stamped "Willcox & Gibbs Sewing Machine Co New York London Paris" and "Made in USA". Copper embossed seal on base.Tension screw stamped "Never Oil This Tension".
Condition
This specimen comes without a treadle base or hand crank mechanism. The gold work shows minor wear on the upper arm but is otherwise in excellent condition. Minor surface rust on the cloth plate and exposed metal parts. Overall, an excellent example. Not tested for functionality. Case and pedal-operated power supply not present.
