Description
Canadian. Picton, Ontario. c1870. Salt-Glazed Stoneware. G.I. (George) Lazier was the third potter to operate the Picton pottery; initially established in 1849 by William Hart. It should be noted that during Lazier's tenure (1864-1879), all pieces produced were stamped "Picton, C.W." (Canada West) even though the bulk of his production occurred following Confederation in 1867. Stamped, "4 / G.I.LAZIER / PICTON. C.W.".
Condition
A pattern of hairline cracks can be seen on the left side with a couple branching up towards the decoration and rim and the remainder towards the base. A couple of minor glaze flakes and manufacturing flaws are apparent as well.
