Description
Canadian. Picton, Ontario. c1870. Salt-Glazed Stoneware. G.I. (George) Lazier was the third potter to operate the Picton pottery; initially established in 1849 by William Hart. It should be noted that during Lazier's tenure (1864-1879), all pieces produced were stamped "Picton, C.W." (Canada West) even though the bulk of his production occurred following Confederation in 1867. Stamped, "6 / G.I.LAZIER / PICTON. C.W.".
Condition
Minor chips and glaze flakes can be seen along the rim. A large open crack on the left side, just behind the handle or "ear" of the crock, extends from the rim to the base. As this is structural, the winning bidder should plan on picking this item up as it likely wouldn't survive shipping.
