Description
English. Circa 1825. Sheet iron and brass. A rare painted tall case clock dial marked for clockmaker John Geddie of Pictou, Nova Scotia. The corners of the dial exhibit decorative rural scenes of cottages and the arched top displays an image of a ruined building and simulated moon phases. Hours are marked in roman numerals. There are two winding arbors visible and remnants of both a seconds and date indicator. John Geddie (1778-1843) was a Scottish clockmaker who came to Pictou, Nova Scotia in 1817. Few of his Canadian-made clocks are known to survive. Dial signed, "Geddie Pictou".
Condition
