A large diorama of the Niobe, a three-masted, square-rigged clipper ship in full sail with jibs and staysails flying, accompanied by a tugboat and pilot boat. Sails are carved and the boats are all in original white paint in stark contrast to the threatening sky and rocky shore. Details include a Union Jack at the stern, the tugboat Pat with a white star on the black smokestack, and a smaller sailboat Pilot No.1. Very good condition, as-found. Circa 1880.
