Description
American. C. 1888. Slightly altered from the 1886 introduced version by the addition of two additional rifle cartridges, the .38-56 WCF added on the left side above a primer tin and the .40-60 WCF added on the right side, also above a primer tin. Brass ID tags are installed underneath these two added cartridges. Dark lithograph backboard by Giles Litho Co. - New York and Boston, Illustrates three hunting vignettes surrounded by 121 original inert dummy cartridges plus primer tins, lead bullets, and paper and brass reloadable shotshells. This altered 1888 version is rarer than the original 1886 issued board.
Condition
Good condition. Some cartridges were rewired to the board the same as original and some have added epoxy support. Original Winchester ID printed paper backing replaced with plain paper backing. Lithograph background illustrations have dulled with age. Three minor touch-ups to background. Inert cartridges are in good condition and appear to have been cleaned in the past. The replacement frame is in good condition. Missing the eight gauge paper shotshell. Replacement of oak frame without use of the original gold flat and floral middle filets.
Provenance
From the G. Wayne Connor Collection.
