Description
American. C. 1897. Oak framed lithographed backboard with the Winchester Repeating Arms Company (WRAC) displaying dummy inert samples of all the pistol and rifle cartridges, and shotgun shells then being produced in their New Haven, Connecticut factory. WRAC was turning out over a million rounds of ammunition per day at the time in their 7000-employee ammunition and firearms manufacturing plant. On the back is printed the number 291. This form of ammunition advertising was provided by WRAC to its largest retailers, wherever located. Marked, front.
Condition
Very good condition with strong colours. Board is original with a few loose cartridges and shells rewired to the board as they were originally. Shows several touch-ups to surface defects and small areas of loss to the dark green background. Two small water stains show one at the ear of the dead bear in the A.B. Frost Center vignette and one in the "HI" trademark vignette. Many brass shells lightly soiled.
Provenance
From the G. Wayne Connor Collection.
