Canadian. 1950s. Diecast. The Londontoy (yes it's one word) company, as the name clearly suggests, made toys at their factory located in London, Ontario. The company originally made air compressors and air pumps for jeeps during WWII. It is not known exactly when they began toy production, but it is thought to have occurred as a means of using the waste and rejected metal from their war efforts. The factory closed in 1950, and in 1951 one of their salesmen, Archie Palmer, purchased the Londontoy name, their moulds and everything related to the manufacture of toys. While the company eventually closed (date is unknown) and their equipment was sold to a U.S. manufacturer, it is known that they remained in the toy business for only a few years (specific dates unknown). A great Canadian collectible. Marked "Londontoy No 53 Oil Tanker Made in Canada" on underside. All items are guaranteed authentic by Miller & Miller Auctions. Toy is in good condition. Color is bold and shows gloss. There is light wear to the "White Rose" script on one side, with minor loss to lettering. Minor wear from use is evident. Box is in good condition with minor scuffing and creasing.
