Description
Elegant form with its stovepipe neck and bulbous base, this earthenware ewer has a mottled brown glaze (Rockingham type) and 8 rows of coggle wheel decoration. Attributed to Horning & Brownscombe, Owen Sound, there are three forms of ewers known from Owen Sound but they share a similar feature with the elongated handle. This is a scarce variation and would have originally been paired with a matching bowl. 1895-1907. Stove pipe neck shape and coggle wheel marking.
Condition
Very good condition with just a 3/4" chip on the front edge of the rim.
Provenance
From the Gerald and Marlene Fagan Collection.
