Description
Marshalltown, Nova Scotia. 1975. A charming painting by Everett Lewis (1893-1979), husband of Maud Lewis, showing two oxen with an attending young girl wearing a yellow sweater, blue skirt and pink stockings and holding a whip. Everett Lewis painted in the manner of his late wife Maud Lewis and this scene is reminiscent of the oxen pairs that she used to paint. Mr. Lewis does his best and, for the most part succeeds, in presenting the viewer with a naive scene of bygone days. Signed, "Everett Lewis" lower edge, middle. Dated, "1975" lower right. Includes signed letter of authenticity by Alan Deacon.
