Lunenburg, Nova Scotia. C. 1970. Collins Eisenhauer (1898 - 1979) is an important Canadian folk artist who came to prominence in the 1970's. He is known for his imaginative, sometimes life sized, painted wooden sculptures of humans and animals. This swan with fully elevated wings and neck, an unusual position, is superbly executed. The artist is in complete command of the subject, the finely detailed carving of the wings clearly demonstrates the skill and artistry of Mr. Eisenhauer. A terrific piece by a legendary Canadian folk artist. Unmarked.
