Description
Laval, Quebec. Last quarter 20th century. Rare and important "Circus Freak Show" by the renowned Quebec carver Gaston Bergeron. This piece is a component of his greatest work, a fabulous miniature circus. Over a period of about 35 years, Bergeron sculpted circus wagon after wagon, each one numbered and with their animals or entertainers inside. This group of "circus freaks" includes the bearded lady, the world's tallest man, and more. All are carved to scale, with every detail meticulously crafted, including the undercarriage, wheels, and harnesses of each wagon and horse. A large part of the circus collection is housed at The Canadian Museum of History in Hull, Quebec. Unsigned. Marked, "18", on wagon.
