Description
Canadian. Likely Cornwall, Ontario. 1860s. A well-rendered and dark cobalt blue bird on this solid 4-gallon jug. Its maker is attributed to Orrin Ballard, most likely during his time in Cornwall, Ontario (1864-1869). Stamped, "4".
Condition
Professional repair to 2 small spout chips, at the front and right side; and a tight/faint crack along the base starting at the left side and running horizontally towards the back.

Salt-glazed stoneware.
