Napanee, Ontario. 1871-1878. In late 1871, Walter Coxall and John Paisley teamed up to establish a grocery store in Napanee and in 1874 the pair expanded into wines and liquors. The partnership ended in 1878 and the two carried on with separate grocery businesses for the next two decades and beyond. A stunning jug with an exuberant bowtie decoration. Attributed to the Lazier/Picton Pottery. Stamped, "Coxall And Paisley. / Wholesale & Retail Grocers / Wine And Spirit Merchants / Napanee. Ont.".
Condition
1/2" potstone front, below decoration. Four kiln touch marks, one to the left of the stamp with associated 1/4" shallow flake, and the others toward the right side.
