Barbara Clark Fleming (born 1939) grew up on a farm near Hickson in southwestern Ontario, and traces her love of the farm animals, which dominate her paintings, to that childhood environment. With no formal art training, Clark-Fleming set out on the painting path in the late 1970s because she wanted to preserve an image of the home farm, stating “There were no pictures of the house and the barn and I didn't want to forget it. So, I decided to paint it.” She found success in her artistic career, with interest from art collectors and antique dealers sparking her popularity. Her paintings are included in many collections in Canada, the USA and Europe including the Museum of American Folk Art, New York.

Oxford County, Ontario. C. 2010. A colourful Barbara Clark Fleming painting depicting a busy Southwestern Ontario farm. Painting gives a glimpse into farmlife in spring, with planted fields, farm animals roaming and grazing and the clear skies of blue. The young girl in the lower left is a young Barbara. She quite often paints her young self into her paintings. Framed by the artist in her typical barnboard frame. Signed by artist on front lower right corner of painting. Signed and titled by artist on reverse.
