ARTIST
Eddie Mandaggio (1927-2020) was a carver and painter based in Nova Scotia. Early in life, he worked in northern Manitoba and Ontario as a trapper and as a hunting and fishing guide. He moved to Nova Scotia in 1951, where he worked on the railroad and in lumber camps. Mandaggio began carving in the early 1970s, and later took up painting. His work consists primarily of animals and birds. He has been the subject of numerous articles about folk art, and is also featured in "Folk Art Found Me"; a National Film Board of Canada production released in 1994. Mandaggio stopped carving in 2003, and his work is becoming increasingly difficult to find.

Description
Bridgewater, Nova Scotia. 4th quarter 20th century. Eddie Mandaggio created this straightforward folk art painting, of a 10-point white-tailed buck in an abstracted natural setting, early in his career. There are three small holes along the top where the painting was pinned to the easel. Signed "Eddie Mandaggio" at bottom left and "# 1635 / F1095" on the reverse.
Condition
Good condition. Three pin holes along upper edge with paint flaking around each. Minor paint loss and flaking touch ups along left edge.
