ARTIST
Sculptor Yvon Coté (1914-1995) was born in Petite-Anse, Québec but spent most of his life in nearby Grande-Vallée. He specialized in animal sculptures, becoming widely recognized for his intricate bird carvings. His birds include detailed feather carvings, carved eyes and metal paws threaded with fishing line. His distinctive knife-mark finish and varnish-sealed pencil crayon colour technique added to the intricacy and originality of his work. In 2002, The 'Musé Yvon Coté' opened in Grande-Vallée, where many of his works are proudly displayed. His work is included in many private collections throughout North America.

Description
Grande Vallee, Quebec. 2nd half 20th century. A beautifully carved and accurately coloured male pine grosbeak bird by renowned Grande-Vallee, Quebec carver Yvon Cote. His carvings are recognized by their very high gloss, an effect he often achieved with several coats of clear nail polish over crayon or pencil crayon. Marked "Gros-Bec Des-Pins male" on sticker on underside.
