Yvon Cote carvings are typically recognized by their very high gloss, an effect he often achieved with several coats of clear nail polish over crayon or pencil crayon. This is a relatively rare example of a painted work, created in the 1960s before he began this technique. This is a graceful rendering of a squawking seagull perched on a rock with wings raised.
