Description
A carved robin by Jean-Baptiste Côté (1852-1922) in original paint with wire rod legs and mounted on a contemporary base. In worn but untouched condition, this is a rare 19th century Quebec carving.
Condition
Strong paint with wear; old loss to the beak, tail, wing tips and at the insertion point of the legs. The eyes are missing, likely tack heads as in another well-known example by Jean Baptiste Cote. Initials HR have been incised under the tail at a later date.
Provenance
From the Katheryn and late David Richardson Collection.
