Description
Marshalltown, Nova Scotia. 1974-1975. A primitive oil on board painting of two oxen in winter signed "Maud Lewis" by Everett Lewis (1893-1979). The image depicts two oxen accompanied by a young child-like figure wearing a yellow sweater, green skirt, and black stockings 'cracking the whip'. Everett was the husband of Maud Lewis. After Maud's death in 1970, Everett attempted to satisfy the demand for his Maud's work with the creation of images like this one. This painting is modelled after Maud Lewis' serial image 'Two Oxen in Winter' that she painted for over two decades. Signed, "Maud Lewis", by Everett Lewis lower right.
Medium
Oil on board.
