ARTIST
Rosario Gauthier was a sculptor based in Saint-Charles-le-Bourget, Lac-Saint-Jean, Québec. A true primitive artist, Gauthier used ‘as found’ materials and colour in his carvings. He carved an array of subjects including birds, animals and people. He is collected in museums and private collections, with a large body of his work featured in Musée Du Civilisation in Québec.

Description
Saint-Charles-le-Bourget, Lac-Saint-Jean, Quebec. c1980. Wood, plywood, round nails. This folky carving of Great Grey Owl by Rosario Gauthier has a very strong presence. The blue glass eyes and raised wings accented in gray, white and black paint create a striking effect. Marked "R.G." on the bottom of the tail.
Condition
Very good condition with old shrinkage cracks to the body.
