ARTIST
Joe Lloyd (1937-2011) was an Ontario-based sculptor and woodcarver. He was born near Napanee, Ontario and eventually settled in Brantford where he began carving seriously in the 1970s. Lloyd's subject matter evolved from wildlife carving of fish, bear, and birds, into human figures, which he then began to place in small, intricately detailed scenes. Typical subjects of Joe’s sculptures are sports figures, cowboys, super heroes, soldiers, and domestic scenes. He worked in small scale and with great detail.

Description
Brantford, Ontario. 2006. Softwood, plywood, string. A carving of a native buffalo hunter by Joe Lloyd. He is shirtless and without a saddle, pointing his spear towards the buffalo. The horse is tan in colour with white patches and the buffalo is painted in two shades of brown. Mounted to a green and blue painted plywood base. Signed on bottom "J. LLoyd, Brantford, Ont. 2006".
