Canadian. Ca: 1980. This is a relatively rare painting of the sinking of the Titanic by Felicién Levesque (1916-1997), Cacouna, Québec. Felicién is a well known and highly respected primitive artist. He made painted carvings of birds, animals and people in everyday situations. He also made dioramas of life and situations that happened along these shores. They were always full of people and activity. He worked with as found materials. His carvings, often unsigned, are easily identified. His work is honest, direct, and very powerful. Signed on the front, "F.L., Cacouna, Coula (sank) 1912, 1517 mort (dead)". 20.5 x 27". $900/1200.
