Circa 1900. Ectopistes migratorius. Once considered the most abundant species of bird on the planet, the last known passenger pigeon died on September 1, 1914 in a Cincinnati zoo. This marked the anthropogenic extinction of the passenger pigeon. This taxidermied male passenger pigeon is cased in glass, secured to wood branch perch. Includes a copy of "The Passenger Pigeon" by W.B. Mershon, personalized to pigeon fancier Don Blyth, as well as a framed print of two passenger pigeons by Louis Fuerte. 15" in length from beak to tip of tail. Don and Joyce Blyth collection.
