Description
A Civil War Confederate single-edged "Arkansas Toothpick" in sheath, hand forged with slab tang construction. This fighting knife was considered the main competition to the Bowie knife from the late 1830's to the period just after the Civil War -- a large narrow knife, usually double edged, with a sharp acute point and a 12-20" blade. The name comes from the rough culture that populated the lowlands of Arkansas and the Mississippi delta in the mid 19th century. The scabbard consists of a pine inner sheath covered in heavy leather. Great wear to the blade with light corrosion visible and the leather belt loop is split. The handle appears to be made of two pieces of animal horn. American, mid 19th century. L: 18", W: 1". CODE:MIL
