With museum quality objects in each category, our February sale features several “book” pieces including, from Ontario, a 19 th century Ontario Schrank in original paint signed by the maker John Klempp and, from Quebec, an important arbalète commode with carved feet illustrated in the “Early Furniture of French Canada”. Also included is a tall chest of drawers made by Samuel Bricker (Waterloo), two Quebec V chests, a stepback cupboard in paint, a Butler’s desk from Lennoxville Quebec, corner cupboards including one with neoclassic glazing, a Newfoundland wash stand, a Stahlschmidt desk, a Tavistock monumental clock, several good small tables in paint, and Windsor chairs. Folk art includes several fine burl bowls, small deed boxes, a wonderful diorama, several Fraktur pieces including Anna Weber, forged iron lighting, several name decoys, David Horst carvings, several quality hooked rugs, and treenware. Paintings include a village scene by Brantford’s Chief Beaver and several early farm scenes. Textiles, include a large Adirondack style rug with two stags, samplers and several outstanding quilts such as Star of Bethlehem, Adam and Eve, and a quilt from the Ephrata Cloister. Pottery includes decorated stoneware and merchant crocks, as well as a large, rare Brownscombe pitcher, a unique Huron Pottery earthenware advertising stein and a monumental Gurd’s ginger beer bottle. Rounding out the sale is a collection of Nantucket Lightship baskets, coloured oil lamps, a Haida Whaling hat, baskets, a Tiffany table lamp, art glass shades, and other exciting finds. A sale not to be missed.
