American. 1850s. Early empire, half octagon side columns and stepped bottom and top, rosewood veneer, triple glazed door, with octagonal glass - top and bottom. Re-painted Roman numeral metal dial with original OG type hands. Centre panel tablet - gold gilt rose wreath with centre eagle and American flag. Eight-day brass lyre shaped movement weight driven, marked S. Thomas, Plymouth, Conn, USA, with Eagle crest on front plate, recoil escapement, with strike on hour. Label marked, "Eight Day Brass Clocks made and sold by Seth Thomas, Plymouth Hollow, Conn". 30.5" (h), 17" (w), 4" (d). Minor veneer chips at bottom of case, otherwise in good condition.
