Description
American. 1966. Illustration by famed artist Norman Rockwell (1894-1978) who was commissioned by Twentieth Century Fox to paint the original of this "Stagecoach" print for their 1966 movie of the same name. Coincidently, 1966 was the Winchester Repeating Arms Company's 100th Anniversary and its first production firearm, the Model 1866 lever action rifle and carbine was now also 100 years old. In commemoration of these milestones, Winchester arranged for the reprinting of the Rockwell illustration. In the bottom right corner it states "Reprinted by Winchester to commemorate its 100th anniversary 1866 - 1966" and in the lower left corner is printed "The Norman Rockwell painting for the motion picture Stagecoach, a Martian Rackin production for Twentieth Century Fox." Additionally, the stagecoach pictured center portion of the illustration was used for the cover of Winchester's 1966 Trade Catalogue Titled "Winchester-Western - 1966 Sporting Arms and Ammunition - 100th Anniversary Edition." of which a framed copy is included. Rockwell's illustration features a six-horse team-pulled stagecoach with passengers, driver, and guards in full flight on a mountain road shooting back at a mounted band of attacking Native Americans.
