Description
American. 1910s to early 1920s. Single-sided tin (SST). Velvet tobacco is an all-American blend of tobacco that tastes like burley (an air-cured tobacco grown mainly in Kentucky) that is slightly sweetened with licorice or anise. While Velvet was being sold in the mid to late 1800s, mostly in short-sized pocket tins, it was not until 1912 when The Liggett & Myers Tobacco Company began selling Velvet in standard-sized pocket tins, such as the one shown on this sign. At the time, the company was considered very innovative in its design, using creative lithography to write the name "Velvet" using a tail of smoldering smoke. The sign has bold, vibrant colors and displays well. Marked "M-2040" at lower left edge. Authenticated by The Authentication Company (TAC #400670). All items are guaranteed authentic by Miller & Miller Auctions. All purchases are eligible for delivery to the Spring Dixie Gas & Oil Show on April 10-12 2025.

Grade: 8.5. Very good condition. Minor scratches to the field of the sign. Some paint loss to the edges with most notable at the lower left.
