Description
Canadian. 1951. Single-sided tin (SST). Sweet Caporal (or "Caps" as they were fondly known) was one of the oldest brand of cigarettes that was sold in the Canadian market from 1887 (when it was first registered in Canada) until it was discontinued in Canada in 2011. The Sweet Caporal name comes from the type of tobacco's that were blended to produce their cigarettes - the "sweet" comes from the Turkish tobacco that had a distinct sweet flavour and the "caporal" is the tobacco known for being dark and having a strong flavour. The marking on the sign represents an inventory number followed by the number "51" (which represents the year the sign was manufactured). Sweet Caporal advertising has long been a favourite of the hobby and this sign will display well in any collection. Marked "A 39??-51 Printed in Canada" at lower left edge. (Note: the inventory number is partially obscured by pitting and is not legible). Authenticated by The Authentication Company (TAC #500074). All items are guaranteed authentic by Miller & Miller Auctions. All purchases are eligible for delivery to the Spring Dixie Gas & Oil Show on April 10-12 2025.
