Description
An exquisite Canadian butler's desk from Lennoxville Quebec featuring French flared feet, fine line inlay on the case and drawers, and with a fitted interior in the top "drawer" having six mahogany veneer drawers with perimeter banding plus a centre door concealing two additional drawers and a cubby hole. Original turned white knobs. Constructed in pine with mahogany veneer and having a fine serpentine inlay on the frieze and base that terminates with curled line volutes on the French feet. Linenfold inlay is found on the drawers. Illustrated in "A Provincial Elegance" plate 122 by Henry Dobson. Purchased by Henry Dobson in 1965 from Ann Beaulieu in North Hatley; ex collection Dr and Mrs John Ross. In very good condition with a chip repair on the back left edge at mid-point and on the back right lower edge. Some trim loss and minor veneer chips, brass pulls replaced. Quebec, circa 1820.
Condition
Strip replaced on back left corner. One piece of veneer missing on second rail. Several small pieces of trim have come off the drawer edges.
