Description
A Nova Scotia corner cupboard in white overpaint with Neoclassic glazing and a prominent multi-layered cornice with rope carving and linked arches along the lower edge. The two upper doors are flanked by a vertical line of linked oval motifs and the interior retains the original shelves and blue paint. This oval motif is also found on a hanging cupboard from Pictou County that is illustrated in the "Spirit of Nova Scotia" page 206. The more simple lower section rests on a simple bracket base and has two doors with fitted beaded edge panels. In one piece construction, the top section has been cut below the cornice at some point and re-attached. Otherwise very good condition. 1820-40.
Condition
Overpaint. The top has been cut just above the upper doors, possibly to remove from a room. Interior is old blue overpaint.
Provenance
From the Tom & Cliff Stanton Collections.
