Description
St. John, New Brunswick. Mid 1970s. Although he painted for a relatively short period of time, Joe Sleep's (1914 - 1978) unique folk art paintings encompassed the things he knew and experienced in life: the land, the ocean, fishing, hard work and the travelling circus. Many of his works, usually done with markers on paper or board, include scenes or objects from these settings and more. He was a confident folk artist who knew what his customers wanted and, much to their delight, he created many impressive paintings including this one featuring the images of flowers surrounded by individual fish. Unsigned. Original price on reverse. Includes signed letter of authenticity by Ian Muncaster, Zwicker's Gallery.
