Canadian. Late 1800s to early 1900s. A rare Canadian sign, showing a clipper at sea, advertising Puritan Cut Plug tobacco manufactured by D. Ritchie & Co. in Montreal. The D. Ritchie Company played a significant role in tobacco history as it was one of only 2 Canadian firms (the other was the American Cigarette Co.) that were the genesis of the Imperial Tobacco Canada company (Canada's largest tobacco company). Marked, "Manufactured By D. Ritchie & Co Montreal.", at lower right. Marked, with unknown maker's mark, at lower left. Authenticated by The Authentication Company. (TAC #400264). Condition
Grade: 8. Good condition. Strong colour and gloss. Some hits to the field with most significant being on the edge of the sail, the 'C' in the word "Cut" and the 'U' in the word "Plug". Exhibits scattered chips and edge wear.
