Description
Canadian. Between 1941 and 1945. This World War Two poster is meant to promote the idea that everyone can contribute to the war effort. Specifically aimed at farmers in rural areas- those people who may not have much cash to contribute but could still help in other ways- this message highlights the need for community involvement. During the war, the War Finance Committee issued bonds not only to people contributing money, but also to people who would contribute items such as produce. This poster illustrates a smiling rural family donating wheat, chicken, and pork to the war department in exchange for war bonds of equivalent value. As with most posters of this era promoting unity against a common enemy, the need to "do one's share" is heavily stated and, by contrast, the emotion of shame looms over families reluctant to contribute as their neighbours did. This poster uses bright and contrasting colours to draw the attention of the viewer to ensure this message is delivered. Unmarked.
