Description
American. Barrel length is 31.5”, approximately .46 calibre. The barrel is signed “Nicholas Hawk Gunsmith” in script on a brass inlay. The stock is tiger maple. The cheek is decorated with Hawk’s characteristic finely engraved silver oval inlay with 8 piercings and an 8-pointed flower design. Below the oval, a piece of engraved bone is dovetailed into the wood. There is a silver plaque on the wrist, engraved with an owner name and location “C.B. Heller Easton". Nicholas Hawk (1782-1844) worked in Monroe County, Pennsylvania. He built a reputation for producing high-quality firearms detailed with intricate brass and silver engravings and inlays.
Condition
Two of the barrel wedges are missing. The barrel shows overall light surface rust. The stock shows a couple of small cracks and 2 pieces of wood missing along the side of the barrel. There is small piece missing from the brass toe plate and a small piece of wood missing at the toe. The lock functions as it should, as does the patch box release.
