Swiss. 1864. Walking stick with black antler handle with hand grasping the stick. With engraved metal plate "James Thies, from his friend, JAA, St. Gothard, 11,600 feet above the sea. 1864". Together with a similar example with a black antler handle and a fur-covered hoof. The hardwood shaft carved "Rigi-Kulm". St. Gothard and Rigi-Kulm are both in the Swiss alps. Stamped/burnt, on the shaft of one. Engraved, on a sterling plate fixed to the shaft of the other.
