Description
German. 1910s. Lehmann was best known for their painted clockwork toys and tin windups. They ended their production of windups in the mid-1920s. Lehmann toys remain among the most highly sought-after toys by collectors. The "EPL 565" represents the founder's initials (Ernst Paul Lehmann) and an inventory number. A rare toy featuring two labourers carrying a man seated in a highly decorated coach. The man in the coach is holding the pigtail of the frontman, presumably confirming his superior social status. This is one of the finest Lehmann toys made. Marked, "Lehmann", on coach and key. Lehmann trademark logo on coach. Marked, "Made in Germany", on one side of coach.
