Description
Canadian. C. 1890s. The Sawyer and Massey Company can perhaps be credited with helping to feed more Canadians in the 19th century than most other companies. Their steam engines and threshers became important tools in increasing the size of Canadian harvests and the backbone of the Canadian farmer. This poster is meant to impart trust in their product as the viewer can see just how quickly the equipment can harvest a field. Note the overflowing harvest as the steam engine chugs along. Along with that imagery, the viewer notes the impressive size of the factory which was intended to instill confidence in the quality of the manufacturing process. Finally, note the small alignment mark in the left margin and the six white circles. This poster was designed to be placed into the hands of local vendors, who would then use it to print their local details in the space provided. Much like a modern car dealership, this poster is a fine example of high-quality machinery being marketed across a dealer network. Quite an impressive achievement and an eye-catching poster as well. Marked, "Duncan Litho Co L'td, Hamilton, Canada".
