Description
Japanese. 1950s. This toy was really just a robot, but over time acquired the name "easel back" because of the wire stand in the back that helps him stand up so he doesn't fall over. Linemar is the trade name Marx used for its toys that were manufactured in Japan (to keep costs down) and then sold in the U.S. and other countries. Marked, "Linemar Toys Japan", on lower right edge of back.
Condition
Very good condition. Complete and original. Minor scuffs to surface and edgewear. Tested and working.
Medium
Lithographed tin.
Provenance
From the Phil Barnett Collection.
